Vince Carter Turned Down a Music Scholarship to Bethune-Cookman

Bethune-Cookman offered Vince Carter a music scholarship. At Mainland High School in Daytona Beach he played saxophone, served as drum major of the marching band and wrote the school’s homecoming song. He took a basketball scholarship to North Carolina instead.

Four Decades

Carter played 22 NBA seasons, the first player to last that long, and he is the only one to appear in NBA games in four different decades. Fans called him Vinsanity and Half-Man, Half-Amazing, for dunks that did not look possible. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024.
