KC and the Sunshine Band Started at a Hialeah Record Label

The first number one Harry Wayne Casey had a hand in was not his own. He and bassist Richard Finch wrote and produced “Rock Your Baby” for George McCrae, and it went to number one in 1974. They made it at TK Records in Hialeah, Henry Stone’s label, where Casey had gone to work.

Opa-locka and Hialeah

Casey was born in Opa-locka in 1951 and grew up in Hialeah. He and Finch built KC and the Sunshine Band on horns, funk and the Caribbean rhythms of South Florida.

Five Number Ones

The band reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 five times: “Get Down Tonight” and “That’s the Way (I Like It)” in 1975, “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty” in 1976, “I’m Your Boogie Man” in 1977, and “Please Don’t Go,” the first number one of the 1980s.
