Bad Monkey: Carl Hiaasen’s Florida Keys Crime Comedy on Apple TV

A severed arm comes up off the Keys, and the only person who wants the case is a detective who has been demoted to inspecting restaurant kitchens.

Carl Hiaasen published Bad Monkey in 2013. Apple adapted it in 2024, with Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, the ex-detective working the roach patrol, and Bill Lawrence of Ted Lasso and Scrubs developing the series. There is real estate fraud, a detour to the Bahamas, and a capuchin with a grudge.

Season Two

Season two premieres on December 2, 2026, ten episodes running weekly into February. Vaughn returns alongside Natalie Martinez, Charlotte Lawrence and John Ortiz, joined by John Malkovich and Yvonne Strahovski.

Read the novel first if you can. Yancy is funnier on the page, and the series is a good excuse to go back to the book.

The Keys carry the show. Hiaasen has spent a career writing about people who arrive in Florida to take something, and Yancy is the rare character who just wants to stay put and be left alone with his roaches.
