Chipper Jones Named His Son After the Mets’ Ballpark

Chipper Jones hit so well against the Mets at Shea Stadium that when his son was born in 1999, he named him Shea.

DeLand and Jacksonville

Larry Wayne Jones Jr. was born in DeLand on April 24, 1972. He played high school ball at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, and in 1990 the Atlanta Braves took him first overall in the draft.

One Team

He played his whole career in Atlanta, from 1993 through 2012. He was on the team that won the 1995 World Series and was the National League MVP in 1999. In 2018 he went into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot with 97.2 percent of the vote.
